Intermediate 50/70 Baseball

Intermediate (50/70) Baseball will not be offered for Spring 2024, due to insufficient enrollment throughout District 2. We hope Intermediate Baseball will again become a feasible option next year.

Intermediate (50/70) Baseball is for participants who want to continue playing baseball on an intermediate size field.

Ages: SEPLL offers Intermediate (50/70) Baseball for players League Age 11 through 13. Please use the League Age Calculator to determine eligibility. Please understand that we cannot guarantee players League Age 11 and 12 a spot in the 50/70 Division. A player's placement in 50/70 is based on several factors including the number of players registered by age group, the number of teams in the division, and player assessments. If your child is not placed on a team in the 50/70 division, they will be placed in the Major Division. Final decisions on player placement are determined by the Player Agent and Board.

Fees: Please go here for information on our current fees. Scholarships are available to families in need. Contact the Player Agent or Treasurer for information on scholarships.

Volunteers: Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved in Little League. After completing a Little League volunteer application and passing a required national background check, parents may become involved in practices, and be eligible as coaches, managers, umpires, local league board members and other volunteer positions within the League.

Team Formation: 50/70 teams may have from 12 to 15 players. The selection of players for the teams in 50/70 must comply with the Little League Draft Selection System. This is done to ensure a competitive balance among the teams. SEPLL does not accept requests to play with friends or a specific coach.

Uniforms: The League provides each player with a team hat and jersey, which is theirs to keep after the season. Players must provide their own pants and cleats.

Equipment: Players are encouraged to bring their own glove to practice and games. SEPLL provides each team with bats, balls and helmets. Players may also bring their own.

Practices: Teams may begin practicing in about mid-March. How often a team practices is up to the manager. Intermediate teams generally practice about 2-3 times per week until the regular season begins in early April. After the regular season begins, team coaches determine the frequency of practices.

Games: Intermediate teams play 2-3 games per week. Weekday games generally begin at 6:00 pm. Saturday games are scheduled throughout the day. Teams may play double headers. Games are scheduled from early April through mid-June. Home games are played at Essex Field. In late March the official schedule will be published at www.sepll.org.

Rules: 50/70 follows the Little League Baseball Official Regulations and Playing Rules. Games are played on a 70-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 50 feet.

50/70 Tournament (All Stars): The objective of the Tournament is to provide 50/70 players the opportunity to participate in a baseball tournament at the District, Sectional and State levels at the end of the regular season. Leagues may place a maximum of 14 players on the All Stars team. To be eligible for play, a player must meet Little League’s “Residency Eligibility Requirement” and have participated in at least 60% of the regular season games as of June 15. SEPLL announces its All Stars team on about June 1. Practices and games generally take place from mid-June into early July, but may continue if the team advances beyond district play. The culmination of the Tournament is the Intermediate (50/70) World Series featuring teams from around the world.

District #2 Honors Tournament: All 50/70 players not selected to the All Stars team are eligible to play in the District #2 Honors Tournament. SEPLL announces its Honors team on about June 1. Practices and games generally take place from mid-June into early July.
