Junior Baseball

Junior Baseball is for participants who want to continue playing baseball on a conventional diamond with a pitching distance of 60 feet, 6 inches, and 90-foot base paths.

Ages: Participants League Age 12 through 14 may play in the Junior Division. Please use the League Age Calculator to confirm eligibility. Please understand that we cannot guarantee players age 12 and 13 a spot in the Junior Division. A player's placement is based on several factors including the number of players registered by age group, the number of teams in the division, and player assessments.

If your child is not placed on a team in the Junior Division, they will be placed in the Intermediate (50/70) Division or Major Division. Final decisions on player placement are determined by the Player Agent and Board.

Fees: Please visit here for information on our current fees. Scholarships are available to families in need. Contact the Player Agent or Treasurer for information on scholarships.

Volunteers: Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved in Little League. After completing a Little League volunteer application and passing a required national background check, parents may become involved in practices, and be eligible as coaches, managers, umpires, local league board members and other volunteer positions within the League.

Team Formation:  Junior teams may have from 12 to 15 players.  The selection of players for the teams in Junior Division must comply with the Little League Draft Selection System.  This is done to ensure a competitive balance among the teams. SEPLL does not accept requests to play with friends or a specific coach.

Uniforms: The League provides each player with a team hat and jersey, which is theirs to keep after the season. Players must provide their own pants and cleats.

Practices: Teams may begin practicing in about mid-March.  How often a team practices is up to the manager. Junior teams generally practice about 2-3 times per week until the regular season begins in early April. After the regular season begins, team coaches determine the frequency of practices.

Games:  Junior teams play 2-3 games per week. Weekday games generally begin at 6:00 pm. Saturday games are scheduled throughout the day. Games are scheduled from early April through mid-June.

Away games will be played against Little League teams in our area with modest amounts of travel (generally 35-40 minutes).

Rules: Junior follows the Little League Baseball Official Regulations and Playing Rules.

Junior Tournament (All Stars): The objective of the Tournament is to provide Junior players the opportunity to participate in a baseball tournament at the District, Sectional and State levels at the end of the regular season.  Leagues may place a maximum of 14 players on the All Stars team. To be eligible for play, a player must meet Little League’s “Residency Eligibility Requirement” and have participated in at least 60% of the regular season games as of June 15. The league announces its All Stars team on about June 15. Practices and games generally take place from mid-June into early July, but may continue if the team advances beyond district play. The culmination of the Tournament is the Junior World Series featuring teams from around the world.
