Tee Softball
Tee Softball is for players league age 4-5 years old who want to learn the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. In Tee Softball, players hit an 11-inch softball off a batting tee. Rules of the game may be varied to accommodate the need for teaching and should focus on fun, fitness, and fundamentals.
The primary goals of Tee Softball are to instruct children in the fundamentals of softball and to allow them to experience the value of teamwork. No live pitching is permitted in this division. Generally, the diamond used is a 60-foot diamond, but the league has the option to use a 50-foot diamond.
Rookie
Rookie Softball is a beginner's division for players league age 6-7 who want to learn the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. Coaches pitch in Rookie Softball. Rules of the game are modified to accommodate the need for teaching. The primary goals of Rookie Softball are to instruct children in the fundamentals of softball and to allow them to experience the value of teamwork.
Typically, a Rookie Softball roster is composed of all girls, and plays in the same league with Rookie Baseball, but with softballs.
Farm
Farm Softball is for players league age 7-9 who are hitting from a coach pitched ball as well as continuing to build on the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. Rules of the game are designed to accommodate the need for teaching. As a Non-Competitive Division, the primary goals of Farm are to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball, to allow them to experience the value of teamwork and give them the opportunity to play baseball with their friends.
Minor
Minor Softball is for players league age 9-11 who are batting against opposing youth pitchers. Minors softball is SEPLL's entry-level competitive softball division. As a Competitive Division, the primary goals of Minors Softball are to create a fair and balanced competition throughout the division and provide a suitable vehicle for team and individual skills development.
Majors
Majors Softball is for girls 11-12 years old who are refining all the skills they have been building up in the Minor division in this next stage of competitive softball. Majors Softball is also known as the Little League Softball Division. As a Competitive Division, the primary goals of Majors Softball are to create a fair and balanced competition throughout the division, provide a suitable vehicle for team and individual skills development and stage the players for much higher levels of play.
Players pitch from 40 feet. Games are 6 innings and are not limited by time. A game may be considered complete after 4 innings and the 10-run mercy rule applies. The first 3 innings are limited to 5 runs, all innings after that are open. Stealing is allowed after the ball leaves the pitcher’s hand.
Junior League
The Junior League Softball division is a program for players ages 12-14, and uses a conventional 60-foot diamond with a 43-foot pitching distance and 12-inch softball. The local league has an option to choose a Tournament Team (or “All Stars”) of 12-14-year-olds from within this division (and/or from within the Girls Senior League Softball Division), and the team may enter the International Tournament.
Juniors is a competitive division. Games are 6 innings and are not limited by time. A game may be considered complete after 4 innings and the 10-run mercy rule applies. The first 4 innings are limited to 5 runs; all innings after that are open. Stealing is allowed after the ball leaves the pitcher’s hand.
